After The Snow

After The Snow by S. D. Crockett is an exhilarating experience and I got hooked all the way. So, let’s get into the review.

The story starts with a ‘straggler’ child called “Willo” and his family. Who go missing one day as he comes back from a day of laying traps.  His dog sense is talking to him throughout the whole journey. With a range of characters to meet and get to know. This story is definitely a must for any person seeking adventure.

This book has many positives. One of them being the story line. Besides the 3 pages of boring stuff in the book, the story is actually catchy and fun to read, and will keep you on edge as anything could happen at any moment. (That gets made apparent later on in the book). The storyline also makes sense, I’m not going to spoil it for you. But some stories I have read, make no sense, this book surprisingly made more sense than I thought it would, especially saying the way it was written.

And that brings us on to our next point. The style it’s written in. I like this because the book is written how the main character (Willo) thinks. Since he hasn’t been taught proper English, he says things like “gonna” and “ain’t”. I like this because it helps you relate more with the Willo and make you feel more for him because you read like him. S. D. Crockett also uses sentences like “but I’m not going to bore you with all of that”. This gave me the idea that this is coming from Willo’s diary or something like that.

Now, on to the negatives. I only have one negative, and this barely happens (as it contrasts my last 2 points) the style of writing sometimes makes it so I can’t understand what is being said.

Overall, I like this book a lot, it is engaging, it makes sense (ALMOST all the time) and it has a great way to engage you with the characters and plot.

I would give this a 4.9 out of 10 just because of a few parts here and there that I, personally, didn't understand.
