Maggot Moon

Award winning, Maggot Moon, follows protagonist, Standish Treadwell, as he tries to survive in a brutal alternative to the 1950s, world only armed with his strange different coloured eyes and a severe case of dyslexia. Standish is different and the book is set with his first person view of living like this in a non-accepting, ignorant society.

Quite frankly, I thought this book was great. I wasn’t sure about it at first, as it read differently to any other books I had read. But when I kept reading I really came round, as I turned the pages, thrilling scenes unfolded and this book really provoked thought about things in this world and how they are and should be, that would have never even crossed my mind in other circumstances. Sally Gardener, does an astounding job at depicting major depth in her characters and plot!

And then. All of a sudden. The book was finished. And it left me wanting more!

There were so many loose ends, strings untied, and I thought this showed real maturity in the writer. It left me wanting more, but at the same time, I thought that if it went on any more, it wouldn’t have been nearly as impactful, or made me think as much as it did.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested, it’s not a hard read, but it has all the impact a book 5 times as long would have, if not more. I have no wonder about why this completely original creation won the Carnegie award and I hope many more people read this and give the book the publicity that it deserves.

Extra art.

This Books really interesting book cover and subject matter, inspired me to make a concept art cover of my own based on the first one and combining different elements using photoshop and drawing it using my graphics tablet that I recentlly purchased. This is how it turned out.
