Dunger

William and Melissa have been roped into helping their old, hippie grandparents mend their holiday home in the middle of the Sounds. They'll have no electricity, no phone reception, and only each other for company. As far as they are concerned, this is NOT a holiday.

Will and Mellisa were set to go on a once in a lifetime holiday when mum and dad decided to cancel it, that was just the bad news, the terrible news was they would be spending 10 days with their old, grumpy and deaf grandparents.William and Melissa didn't want to spend their holidays with their Grandparents. That is until dad told them their Grandparents were going to pay them £1,000 each to stay with them and help fix up the old holiday house. What will Melissa and William do?

It soon becomes clear that their grandparents are not as boring as they seemed to be although this isn’t always a good thing. William and Melissa begin to understand what it means to be a family…and just as they do, disaster strikes. Have the siblings learnt enough to work together and save the family from crumbling? New Zealand author Joy Cowley’s new novel Dunger is an excellent read, laced with humour, irony and written using such excellent imagery that readers can imagine that they are at the beach, or in the car, or playing guitar with Melissa. A great book for both kids and adults alike, Dunger will be loved by people of all ages. The characters are vivid and lovable, and readers will find themselves wishing that this book went on long after the last page of this exciting yet unique style of writing by Joy Cowley.
