Nick And Norah's Infinate Playlist

‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ was written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan and published in 2006. It’s genre is comedy-drama and it tells the story of two broken hearted teens, Nick and Norah. Nick is distraught that his girlfriend left him and Norah is in a similar situation, so Nick asks Norah to pretend to be his girlfriend for five minutes to avoid conversation with his ex girlfriend. And that is how they met. From then onwards, the two become friends. They then discover they like each other and they then go on a first date over an extremely long night in New York. They find out they have things in common like how they like to listen to the same music at the same kind of venue and soon fall in love. But they have no idea what kind of night they’re in for, and so their story continues.

The authors used dramatic language and a griping storyline to draw the reader in. This effect is achieved by including detail in the way it is written in first person and the vibrant imagery used. Each new chapter is full of riveting surprises and unusual New York scenes. The reader must be open minded to be able to embrace the book as it is an edgy read.

The end of the book is unexpected and exhilarating. When I read it I was shocked but not disappointed as it is a well written ending and is full of exciting danger. The ending may be a cliff-hanger but it made me feel like I knew how the main characters’ lives would continue.

I would recommend this book to young adults from the age of 13 onwards. However I would not encourage anyone under this age to read it. It is a funny, enthralling and dramatic book that I enjoyed reading.
