1953 and the war is over. In the quaint, seaside town of Norton, its war-shaken inhabitants are rejoicing at the thought of peace, all except Lizzie. She’s unbearably bored, until the arrival of 13 year old rebellious Natalie, who’s living life on the other side of the tracks. As the girls grow closer over the summer, Lizzie begins to realise she’s got more than she bargained for, as she discovered a new side to the town. One she never knew existed.

Natalie and her strange, little brother Philip, let Lizzy in on their big secret, unlike what everyone else thinks, the war is still lurking. Philip has a seeing, he sees evil all around him. ‘Left-Over Nazis’ Natalie calls them. Now the three delusional characters are accusing their neighbors of something unimaginable.

This powerful, dark thriller by Diana Hendry grips the reader straight into the story and won’t let them go until the answers they seek have been given. The closer I got to the end the faster I read. The plot is well developed and the characters are likeable and relatable at times. I loved the fact that it was written from everyone’s point of view whereby it revealed the whole picture.

A chilling story that will linger in your mind long after you read the last word. 5/5
