The Bone Dragon

Over the holidays, I read a book called ‘The Bone Dragon’. What I wanted, was for it to exceed my appallingly, unfairly low predictions for this emotional hooking masterpiece. I have to admit, I was sceptical, after hearing the name of the book, I assumed the worst. However, re-evaluating this book I'd say I enjoyed it a great deal.

This story is about a 14 year old girl named Evie, who had been scarred and bruised by her grandparents, although she told no one.

However kind she thought her adopted parents were, it took 3 years to finally tell them what happened. Evie had to go to the hospital as her rib was in massive pain and she got it removed and given to her.

Her uncle Ben (one of my favourite characters) suggested that she carve it into a dragon, her ideal pet. Evie spent most of her recovery carving scales on the rib.

After hours and hours of begging for the dragon to come alive, the unthinkable happened.

The bone dragon came to life trying to heal Evie however when the power gets all too much, even Evie's parents can't control what she has become.

Overall, ‘The Bone Dragon’ is a brilliant book about a less fortunate girl who tries to live a normal life. I would like to recommend this book to anyone who is 12 or older. I will give ‘The Bone Dragon’ 9 out of 10 as it is an amazing book.
